Regulatory pressures, customers’ demands, investors and other stakeholders have forced sustainability to the top of business priorities. What does this mean for the Norwegian business community? What role can technology play in accelerating the move to a greener Norwegian business community? And how will data be the key factor to succeed?

The Sustainable way of working – Empowered by data

At IFS we believe in investing in sustainability and the value it can drive to your business. Through investments in technology and connected data, more businesses can better build, manage and measure their sustainability initiatives. Our commitment to sustainability is built upon our plan to improve operations, enabling our customers to achieve their sustainability goals and commitments. We are also dedicated to supporting the industry at large, to encourage more accountability to our environment, across the industry.

As a business the greatest impact we can have is supporting our customers to achieve their sustainable goals and we want to show how technology will be essential to enable a fairer, greener society.

To succeed with a green shift, one cannot operate as an individual company, but need to come together and take a holistic responsibility as an industry, share data and learn from each other. Together, small contributions from individual businesses can have a big impact in an industry context.

IFS Commitment through our Customers - LKAB

LKAB is an international high-tech mining and mineral group that mines and processes Norrbotten’s unique iron ore for the global steel market. They have formed the HYBRIT (Hydrogen Breakthrough Ironmaking Technology) initiative alongside SSAB and Vattenfall. Together they have produced the world’s first hydrogen-reduced sponge iron, reaching around 100 tonnes in their pilot plant in Luleå. The initiative’s goal is to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions from the steel manufacturing process and to be the first to market with industrial scale fossil-free steel.

IFS Commitment through our Customer - Löfbergs

Löfbergs is one of the largest family-owned coffee roasters in the Nordic region. They are one of the largest importers of organic and Fairtrade labelled coffee and have a production that corresponds to 10 million cups of coffee daily. There is a long-term, value-driven and sustainable perspective to the business. Coffee is still the core of Löfbergs’ business and they are constantly developing new products, services and business opportunities that can add value for the company and the world around it. They founded the Circular Coffee Community with the clear-cut purpose of eliminating all waste related to coffee. The circular coffee initiative is about getting more people to make use of the coffee grounds and the leftover coffee instead of throwing a valuable rest product in the trash.

Löfbergs also got recognized in IFS Sustainability awards 2021 for their sustainable perspective to the business.

Manufacturing a Sustainable Future

You might be passionate about sustainability. You might be irritated by it, or you might think it’s important, but boring. Whatever your view, you can’t ignore it. This survey highlights reactive mindset and legacy infrastructure as barriers to sustainability and underlines manufacturers’ strong focus on the circular economy both in the US and Europe
